Perseverance.

Patience. Endurance. Steadfastness. Long-suffering. PERSEVERANCE. Why, oh, why does Scripture encourage such things? The life of an adult naturally involves a lot of stress. It includes responsibilities like working 40 hours a week, being a full-time student, and/or parenting which take enough energy from us as it is…and now we’re told that when we face tragedies, temptations, and disappointments we have to keep going with our heads held high as if nothing can destroy us. I wonder what thoughts went through the apostle Paul’s mind as he spent time in prison, was shipwrecked, abused, and mocked. Every salon has a back room and every stylist likes, appreciates, and needs the back room. It is the place where stylists talk about their day, sometimes panic over their client’s hair, and eat lunch. Miracles. Prayer language. Power. Divine Wisdom. Holy Spirit. Knowledge. Prophecy. Discernment of spirits. There are plenty of accurate words that can explain the beliefs of Pentecostalism, yet there have been a variety of others used to describe it. Such as: weird, crazy, emotional, and heretical. At the root of these inaccurate descriptions is a misunderstanding of what Pentecostalism truly is.
