I have read hundreds of “How To” articles: How To Get the Most Out of Your Quiet Time, How To Start a Fire Without Matches (you just never know when this might come in handy), How To Write a CV.
But the ones I read the most without fail are the How Tos about men: How To Know If He Likes You, How To Know If He Thinks You’re the One, etc. I don’t read these articles for their truth, per se, but I have to admit that they are quite entertaining; these lists of stereotypical traits that detail the male/female mating dance.
These How Tos often appear in every young-adult women’s magazine, can be found trending on the homepage of online search engines, and is a prevailing theme in our pop culture.
So rather than focusing on the How Tos about men, I want to spend this time focusing on the one Man who changed everything forever: Jesus.
I’m sure you’ve heard thousands of times how much Jesus loves you. Just like those How Tos, the Jesus Loves You phenomenon graces many Christian magazines, car and truck bumpers, and we’ve all heard and can sing Jesus Loves Me with our eyes closed.
This isn’t to say that Jesus doesn’t love you, because He does. But this is about Jesus having a crush on you. The kind of crush that keeps Him daydreaming about you all day. The kind of crush that keeps Him checking his heavenly cell phone to see if you have called or texted. The kind of crush that keeps him awake all night in anticipation of your prayer. The kind of crush that pledges to die for your love.
In case you’re wondering, regardless of how well you score on this list, Jesus DOES and ALWAYS WILL have a crush on you.
Here we go!
You know that Jesus has a crush on you when:
1) He’s all ears when you call.
1 Peter 3:12 – For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer…
Jesus won’t be checking His cell phone during your quiet time with Him. He won’t ask you to hold on a minute, while He updates His Facebook status. He won’t tell you that He has class and can’t talk to you right now. Instead, He is intently listening to everything you have to say and doesn’t want you to ever stop. He’s so happy to spend time with you and can’t wait to see you again.
2) He likes hanging out with you and your friends.
Matthew 18:20 – For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.
You know that night out with your youth group that you weren’t sure if Jesus wanted to go to attend. Well, He did. Don’t be afraid to ask Jesus to go out with you because He wants to be everywhere you are. So, the next time your church friends head to dinner and a movie, don’t forget to ask Jesus to come because He also loves a fun night on the town.
3) He wants you to meet His dad.
John 14:2-3 – My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
I know that some people are skeptical of love at first sight, but I am not when I think of Jesus. He’s got one better: love at first thought. Jesus loved you into being. The moment He thought you into the will of the world, He loved you and wanted you to spend all of eternity with Him. And he’s preparing a room for you in His father’s kingdom. Now, that’s the kind of crush I’m talking about!
4) Nothing will change the way He feels about you.
Romans 8:38-39 – For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
I’ve seen enough romantic comedies and fairy tale movies to tell you that no obstacle portrayed in these films come close to what Jesus would do and did do to win your affection. How you ever heard of the Cross? Christ endured six hours of slow death on the Cross to ensure that you would be able to spend all of eternity with Him. That kind of devotion would have every version of Cinderella singing So, this is love…
And last, but never least!
5) He provides for your needs (and sometimes your wants).
John 14:14 – You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
A few months ago, during one of my church’s team meetings, my pastor asked that all who had a financial need come up for prayer, a need I had been requesting from Jesus to mend the week prior. So with enthusiasm, I walked up for prayer knowing that even if my financial needs were not met that this moment of prayer was a reminder that Jesus had heard my request. Not too long after, I received an unexpected check that was proof Christ was organizing the fulfillment of this need from the moment I had asked.
Urbandictionary.com defines a crush as “a burning desire to be with someone who you find very attractive and extremely special”.
Yep, it’s true. Jesus finds you very attractive. You were, after all, created in His image. And He finds you extremely special.
So, the next time you’re moping around, wondering why no one has a crush on you, just remember that Jesus does. And His crushing skills are top notch!
